Basic Stir-Frying

This week, I made a yummy chicken stir fry. For majority of the recipe, I followed the video “How to Make an Easy Chicken Stir-Fry” by Chowhound on YouTube.

However, I did make a few changes…

  • When cooking takes forever, I get bored very easily and lose interest… So I wanted to make this stir-fry as efficiently as possible. Instead of frying one thing at a time, a fried all my vegetables together in one pan while my chicken was frying in another pan at the same time.
  • I added my own vegetable preferences. I am a broccoli fanatic so I added in tons of it. I also come across water chestnuts and mini corn cobs at the grocery store and figured they would also be yummy, so I added them as well.

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS: In the video, she gives instructions to ensure your pan is hot before prior to adding in the ingredients. I found this was a crucial step to ensure nothing got soggy!

The Final Product

After the veggies and chicken were cooked all the way through, I added them together into one frying pan and added in the rest of the sauce. I then served it with simple 10-minute white rice and topped it off with some pepper. This dish was DELICIOUS and was super easy to make. Definitely something I will be making again! stirfry-completed.jpg

Reflection

At this stage in my learning project, I am feeling way more confident in my cooking skills. I often find that I am now tweaking/experimenting with recipes to make them my own and relying less on the set recipe. I have also discovered that I am not as incompetent as I thought I was! Nothing has gone horribly wrong (knock-on-wood) and I have learned a lot. I feel like I am ready to step it up to some harder recipes moving forward. Fingers crossed it keeps going well!!

  1. That looks super yummy! Stirfrys are such a useful style of cooking to have in your arsenal as they are great for weekdays, to use up veggies that are at risk of going bad soon, and are completely customizable. I look forward to your next challenge!

  5. The three vegetables you used are some of my absolute favorite vegetables! Especially the crunch that the water chestnuts give. Also, thank you for the tip about the pan being hot before you put anything on. It’s a very useful tip!
